Creamy baked chicken casserole with cheese and a rich savory sauce, perfect for a comforting family dinner.

Ingredients

400 g cooked chicken (shredded or diced)
1 cup cooked rice or pasta
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 cup broccoli or peas
1/2 tsp paprika

Instructions

Prepare Oven

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Lightly grease a baking dish.

Make Sauce

Melt butter in a pan over medium heat.

Add onion and cook until soft.

Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.

Slowly add milk while stirring until sauce thickens.

Assemble Casserole

Add chicken, rice or pasta, vegetables, salt and pepper to the sauce.

Mix well and transfer to the baking dish.

Sprinkle cheddar and mozzarella evenly on top.

Bake

Bake for 25–30 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.

Serve

Let casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Rotisserie or leftover chicken works well.
Add chili flakes for a little heat.
Breadcrumbs on top can add extra crunch.
